Blog 1/28/10
Seems like forever since I wrote a blog post. I never managed to get around to generating a best of 2009 list as I promised in Zach’s sticky post above. It did occur to me that the best trip of 2009 was definitely going to the lake and the best laugh was the new present Bruce Willis scene in Disney’s the kid.
I believe I already mentioned this but watched a ton of anime over the holiday, however, it’s really fallen off since I’ve gotten back, as has my K-horror watching. So I’m not sure I can do another review rodeo at the moment but I can at least link to a pretty awesome song. Joey Tafolla shreds. The title of the song is ‘open house.’ I like the name because it works on multiple levels. First of all it’s about shredding on open strings, but then open house as a phrase can imply a lot, like an actual open house event or just the pleasant feeling of an open versus cloused house.
Anyway, last night I had what I thought was the best idea ever for a roaring shark podcast. I feel the ‘review’ podcast is too limiting, as much as I love talking about final fantasy and anime. The idea is to call the podcast the ‘survival guide’ and having each episode be about areas of knowledge that you don’t necessarily think about. One of the ideas for a show I had, because I’ve been pondering it recently would be traditional board games, like you know backgammon, checkers, parchisi, tafl, mancala. I’ve just been thinking a lot about what strategy is recently. Another idea would be a show about the different kinds of scents.
I’m hoping to get another chapter of the fanfic up soon. I came up with a fun metal riff.

i don’t know if i could do it every week, already tough fitting in my audioshocker podcast, but we should totally do one over Skype or something! how do you record yours with darren? i just need a new pair of headphones.
i don’t know how much i’d have to say about traditional board games, i’ve played checkers and i sort of remember playing parchisi but i’ve never heard of tafl or mancala. “traditional boardgame” for me means more along the lines of Candyland. what would you say about scents? just which ones you like and dislike? “i hate the smell of onion farts.”

yeah, we do the podcasts on skype. if we can work something out that’d be cool but I don’t want to take up your time as you’re probably really busy
for any of these survival guide episodes we’d have to research it and I’d probably have to explain what I imagined a little clearer. I haven’t played a ton of traditional boardgames either, finding a flash backgammon game is harder than you would imagine.
I was thinking about scents more in terms of different types of scents for cologne and perfume for instance. like I thought it was cool that dior or something invented a scent. but, it’d be cool to go through all the different scent classes, then we’d have that knowledge to apply in day to day life, like if somebody’s wearing some cologne you’d say “ah, I detect a subtle musk with some wooden notes”

that guy really does shred – but i wish the song finished on a stronger note. I know it’s just a dumb youtube instructional song but it seems like he kind of just gave up on the end.

zach, I’ve been rewatching the video and can see where you’re coming from, although I do like the last alternate picking thing that he does, I wish it could’ve gone on a little longer
