Similarities in anime music
Friday, July 31st, 2009This is kind of weird.
This is kind of weird.
The trailer for tron legacy looks pretty cool. Did you see this at comic-con ross!? I love the idea that, at some point, the events of the first movie lead kevin flynn to eastern spirituality which is sort of what this seems to imply.
Anyway, don’t know what to say. I’ve been watching some anime recently, was thinking about posting some reviews but I’m not sure anybody here would be interested.
Also been trying to put together another podcast. I was thinking we, at least Darren and I, could do a serial reading of something, like a classic and discuss it. I wanted to do paradise lost. Would that be cool?
what was i thinking? tripped and accidentally watched all of renee zellwegger’s “new in town.” thought about liveblogging it but then i think that would put on you guys some implied obligation to watch it. the worst part of it was that through the whole movie renee came across as a poor man’s jennifer aniston. like that’s who they really wanted for the role so the director just kept telling her to play her character more “rachel.” felt so bad for her, but maybe it was her own choice. harry connick jr. also in this movie for some reason. couldn’t figure out what to do with his accent, i guess, so they made him southern for no reason. everyone else turns in their best sarah palin impression with the hackneyed “well dontcha know gee golly” accent.
ostensibly it’s about a big city power woman coming to Real America, Minnesota to get a lesson in what it’s like to really CARE about people or to really understand what AMERICA is like. could not be more condescending. and of course at the end the solution to everything is to forget the robotics and layoffs and use the people and old equipment to revitalize a one-factory town. the strangest part was the soundtrack – kind of getting to darren’s thing about FF AC. this soundtrack not prog inspired but i guess they were trying to capture some snow-belt charm and have the music kind of polka-ish. so like every part of the movie has this slapstick “doomp.. da doomp.. da doomp…..bwoooaoooo” element to it.
why did this movie get made? why did i watch it? why did i write this review? losing my mind.
how come only Leo and Michelangelo are in this?
1:25- what is Leonardo doing? kissing this guy’s shoulder or something?
1:50- Leo seems to be caressing him now.
2:11- the mayor guy seems to be having a little trouble getting that medal over Michelangelo’s head.
2:17- WTF???? O_O
Hey guys. I wanted to try an experiment. I’m going to live-blog “The Perfect Man,” a 2005 Hilary Duff video about her trying to set her mom up or something. I don’t really know anything about the movie going into it, so I don’t have any pre-conceived notions. I’ll post my minute-by-minute impressions and then publish the whole entry once I’ve finished. Then, if you want, you can watch the movie too with my time-marked comments as like the Zach commentary track. A Note on the linked site – it’s kind of like a youtube but without copyright protection. The movie is split into 4 pieces that you can access by clicking on the videos labeled as “A Perfect Man” parts A-D. The little ads that play before each clip are pretty good, too. There’s one kind of common one for a bottled water where the announcer is like “OH UAH HA HA!” You can also go the whole 9 yards and post your own impressions either as a comment or just directly edit this entry. Don’t know how well this is going to work, but without further ado, liveblogging “The Perfect Man:”
Darren and I were able to record the fourth rs podcast. We discuss Moon and Final Fantasy VII Advent Children. Talk about comics a little bit at the end. I think we are still searching for a tone. I feel like I talk too much sometimes. Anyway, hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for listening! (Strong Language Advisory)

mark how are the new digs?
Hey guys. Sorry my posting has hit a pretty precipitous decline in the past few weeks. I got scolded by my boss here for not working hard enough so I’ve been trying to pour a little more fuel on the work fire which means a little less time to devote to RS. But luckily things are starting to wind down as it becomes increasingly evident that I’m not going to accomplish any of my stated goals for this project lol.
Anyway this is really really long, but I wanted to highlight this David Foster Wallace article about the production of Lost Highway. It’s like short story-length but I found it pretty engaging. It also introduced me to a comic strip Lynch penned for a little while called “The Angriest Dog in the World.”
Not going to really pass judgement on whether those are good or bad…I guess kind of what I would expect, honestly. Ross was complaining the other night that he might just be done with Lynch, or at least ready for him to change it up a bit. Don’t know if these will alleviate those feelings or not, but anyway dig the complete evisceration DFW gives to Balthazar Getty.
Little quiet here. I’ve been kind of busy recently but I have some more time now.
Anyway, went to schallers for a plate today. Not bad.
There should be a new podcast up this weekend. Darren and I were going to talk about FF7 AC.
