RPG Thoughts Diablo II and Final Fantasy 13
Friday, January 22nd, 2010I’ve been playing a little Diablo II recently. I actually bought the game a while ago when I was getting interested in roguelikes. I have to say, it takes an initial investment of effort, but once you start to understand the gameplay it really becomes quite addictive. I know nobody here is interested probably but if someone is interested in a roaring shark dungeon crawl it’d be rad.
Also, Final Fantasy 13 is looking pretty awesome. Was actually considering getting a PS3. Although I don’t know how I feel about the voice acting.
Fair Embrace Chapter 4, FF7 Fanfic
Thursday, January 14th, 2010Okay, I have a lot to cover here so I should get to it. Here’s the latest chapter of the FF7 fanfic. I think I finally have some ideas for a plot which I owe to talking with darren during xmas and also playing through the game. Darren also helped me do some recording and songwriting and I’ve included the song in this chapter although it isn’t referenced. It’s foreshadowing. This started almost as an exercise in sweep picking for me and I have to say that while I like the chords and melodies in the song I’m not entirely happy with my playing. And I also think I have to work on my tone. But I still hope you enjoy it. In doing a project like this I think I’ll get stuck if I spend too much time reworking tracks.
To get you caught up. Yuffie brought Cloud back to seventh heaven after he had relegated himself to Aerith’s church to improve his chops. The bar was empty however and they’re trying to figure out what to do.
What else? Everybody should be following ross’s podcast which I’ve linked in the sidebar although the most recent episode has too much banter imho, it’s still fun to listen to. And on a related note, none of my nominations for his awards program made it :[
Anyway, I’m not sure how the music will develop for the fanfic. I had the thought of having Cloud recruit monsters he defeats to be in a band as a way of explaining the presence of my voice in case I want to do songs with lyrics, because I honestly don’t think I have a Cloud voice. This led to a disagreement between Darren and I over which singer does sound like Cloud. Darren suggested recent Jesu while I said Steven Tyler.

Cloud tried to be delicate, not being able to really tell how earnest Yuffie was about her changes to his song.
“Yeah…this could work too,” he offered.
“Hehe,” she laughed through slightly chattering teeth. Cloud sensed a growing restlessness in the young ninja and all of sudden felt a bit guilty. He had gotten so worked up fretting about having to perform that he forgot to extend the hospitality that a former member of AVALANCHE deserved. And it was still his home too after all.
“Fair Embrace” Chapter 3, FF7 Fanfic
Thursday, December 10th, 2009I can’t believe it’s been a month since the last chapter of my fanfic. Well, I finally have a title that I’m going with, “Fair Embrace.” This chapter has been written for a while but I put off posting it. And actually I finished the next chapter as well and have some ideas for new tracks. So anyway, I’ll try to get the next chapter up soon and also have new songs. I apologize for not having any music in this post, T_T.
Also, I have to credit Zach with the ‘your ax’ line below. It was definitely inspired by him saying something similar in the elevator when we saw a guy carrying ‘his ax.’
I hope you enjoy!
Extra points for anyone who can guess what philosopher is referenced.

As far as he knew Cloud was bringing Yuffie back to Seventh Heaven. The rain had let up hours before and the sun was setting. The knot in his stomach that he had felt at first glimpse of Midgar on the horizon intensified as they pulled up outside of the bar.
“Well,” he said, “here you are.”
“Yeah, you’ll be meeting the business end of the conformer if you think you’re going to steal away now,” she replied.
Rygar Glitch
Tuesday, November 24th, 2009This is a very mesmerizing speed run of the European version of the nes game Rygar.
It’s like you’re watching it, then at 0:40 you’re like, o.
FF7 Fanfic Chapter 2
Tuesday, November 10th, 2009Okay here’s chapter 2 of my Final Fantasy VII fanfic. I still haven’t thought of a title. Dave’s review post inspired me to keep up the activity here. Note that the song in this works into the story later on. Cloud plays it for Yuffie later as a kind of impromptu jam. It’s sort of Vai inspired although I’m not claiming that I play like him. I’ve been doing some tremolo stuff. Bought a new guitar recently, a Charvel. Sorry about the noise.

Cloud sought shelter under a canopy at an abandoned turnpike between Junon and Midgar. It was late afternoon and the rain had just started up again. He was on delivery. Early that morning he had crept back into Seventh Heaven before Tifa had awoken and collected his messages. “What am I doing?” he asked himself. The fantasy of her black tresses over delicate shoulders sliced clean through his heart and he buried his face in his hands as waves of nostalgia broke over him. An old friend, who had been shadowing him since his last stop, watched from a distance for a while, before it simply became too pathetic a sight to bear.
FF7 Fanfic Chapter 1
Saturday, October 31st, 2009Okay guys, I finally started my epic Final Fantasy 7 fan fiction. I hope you enjoy the first chapter. The basic idea is that cloud wants to start a band. The idea is I guess that I’ll compose the music that’s referenced in the story. Anyway, Ross, I guess this puts the ball in your court. Enjoy. There’s some shredding at the end of the track.

In the rainy season in Midgar Cloud clutched the battered note to his chest. He could still vividly recall the night at Gold Saucer when he had received it. Normally, he wouldn’t have wanted to have his fortune told, but Reeve insisted.
Mario 3: fast Pipe Land with cheesy german dance music in which the vocalist sounds kind of hot.
Monday, September 7th, 2009since i blew it on game night and accidentally used the warp whistle and skipped world 7, here’s a sped up playthrough. it’s almost like really playing it sort of. i don’t know how the guy does that 99 lives trick in the fortress… either it’s some glitch/cheat or he edited out of the video where he went in and out of the fortress a million times. it’s also funny when the song stops and the video continues in silence.
RS Podcast 4: Final Fantasy VII Advent Children
Saturday, July 18th, 2009Darren and I were able to record the fourth rs podcast. We discuss Moon and Final Fantasy VII Advent Children. Talk about comics a little bit at the end. I think we are still searching for a tone. I feel like I talk too much sometimes. Anyway, hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for listening! (Strong Language Advisory)
